‘Summer Samba’ is June 19

Jazz at the Jungle presents jazz vocalist Connie Evingson in Summer Samba Sunday, June 19, in one show only at 4 pm at the Jungle Theatre.
Summer Samba celebrates the arrival of the summer season with songs from Evingson’s Brazilian-influenced CD “Sweet Happy Life,” as well as summertime favorites by Irving Berlin, Gershwin, the Beatles, Cole Porter and others. Joining Evingson at the Jungle for Summer Samba are New York pianist Jon Weber, Gordy Johnson (bass) and Dave Karr (saxophone).
Evingson’s 10 CD releases on Minnehaha Music cover an eclectic catalog of gypsy jazz, bossa nova, Beatles, Broadway and jazz standards and have all charted in the Top 50 in U.S. in Canada. She has been a guest vocalist with Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center, Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion, the Minnesota Orchestra and Toronto Symphony conducted by Doc Severinsen, Vocalessence and JazzMN Orchestra, among others. She is a two-time recipient of both the McKnight Fellowship Award for Performing Musicians and the Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant.
