The 28th Minneapolis Greek Festival “Taste of Greece” will take place the weekend after Labor Day at St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church. This year’s event will again feature authentic Greek food, handmade desserts, live music and dancing, church tours, the Greek Boutique, and a kid’s area with inflatables. And, you may want to check out the Courtyard Café – the sunsets are spectacular.
The Taste of Greece runs Friday and Saturday, September 9 to 10, from noon to 10 pm, and Sunday, September 11, from noon to 6 pm. Early Bird Specials will be available on Friday, noon to 4 pm.
Proceeds from the Taste of Greece Festival go to support charitable organizations such as the rebuilding of St. Nicholas Church and National Shrine at Ground Zero, Joyce Food Shelf, and St. Mary’s missions and outreach programs. Festival guests are encouraged to bring three non-perishable food items for Joyce Food Shelf and receive two free food tickets.
Also on Friday night is Chloe’s Fight 5K Toga Run/Family Walk and Kid’s Toga Race around Lake Calhoun. All proceeds benefit pediatric rare disease research. Information and online registration at ChloesFight.org.
“Each year we are happy to open our Church doors to our friends and neighbors to share our Greek culture and support several worthy causes,” said Fr. George Dokos, head priest of St. Mary’s. “We welcome everyone to come and enjoy our traditional offerings, enjoy Greek foods and culture, as well as fellowship with those from the St. Mary’s community and the neighborhood,” added Thomas Forchas, chairperson of this year’s Festival.
